Dear Friends

Happy New Year! Let us hope that this year will see a change in fortunes for Gwrych Castle

This year the Trust hopes to complete several conservation projects within the Castle Estate details of which will be made available on the members section of the trust website. We will have polo-shirts displaying the Trust logo for sale later this year as well as other items. One of our main objectives is to address the continued deterioration of the internal fabric of the house; we feel it is imperative for a temporary roof to be erected over parts of the building to prevent further decay. There is still so much which could be saved from the interior but another winter will see most of it disappear!

Saturday 8th November was the Trust’s Exhibition and coffee morning at Church Walks, Abergele George Cottier, a local artist, presented Mark Baker and the Trust with two of his paintings at the exhibition, one of Winifred, Countess of Dundonald and another of Gwrych. These two paintings were privately purchased and the Trust is considering asking George Cottier to commission paintings of Gwrych for the private purchase of interested persons - with George then making a contribution from the paintings to the Trust. The two paintings in question were painted to commemorate the publication of the Countess’ biography in August 2003. The new book has sold nearly 600 copies since August 2003, Details relating to the book can be found on the Publications Website www.gwrych.co.uk

Gwrych has been featured on the Country Life Magazine website by Arabella Youens,
http://www.countrylife.co.uk/artsantiques/architecture/save_gwrych.php.
It is most interesting and serves to further publicise the dereliction of Gwrych. The Castle is also mentioned on page 49 of the latest issue of the actual magazine.
Thank you Country Life Magazine!

Thank you for your kind support,
