Archaeology and a Welsh Countess Winifred, Countess of Dundonald and the Gwrych Castle Estate, Abergele
Winifred, Countess of Dundonald was the last of the Lloyds of Gwrych, a family who had for generations taken an active interest in archaeology and antiquarian study. From birth, Winifred had been immersed in Welsh history and during the 1900s she was at the forefront of a cultural revival in Wales, re-engaging with the past and interpreting it for a 20th century audience. This talk reflects on Winifred's life and how she was able to reclaim her identity through archaeology.
